Donald Cox employs a variety of therapeutic techniques to assist healing in his patients: Shiatsu Massage (Acupressure) Shiatsu massage is different from typical Western massage therapies. It focuses on "reading" and responding to the paths of energy flow with the body. Most illnesses and injuries reveal a corresponding disturbance in energy flow through the channels of the body. Shiatsu uses manipulation of body tissues and the use of acupressure to stimulate, tonify, or relax specific points in the body where energy flow is "collected" or impeded. With energy flow restored, healing is quick, as the body can now bring its healing energy to the places needed. Meridian Therapy The body pathways are defined in Eastern medicine as Meridians. Different pathways relate to different body systems that are named after the dominant organs involved. Meridians can be "overheated" or 'cold', meaning that energy is too prevalent or too weak in that pathway. The practitioner understands the proper techniques to restore balance. It is not immediately obvious to a patient why, for instance, calming the liver meridian should relieve migraine headaches, but the practitioner may see that toxification due to improper liver function is the main cause of the headache. In other words, pain in the knee may be due to an imbalance in the kidney meridian... the names of the meridians are not necessarily associated with the location of the obvious complaint. Usui Reiki Reike works with the emotional "storage" of the body to release pent-up energy and bring a greater sense of health and well-being. Reiki can often improve a person's energy level and resistance to physical and emotional challenges. Often, Reiki can relieve pain in locations of the body that are "storehouses" for negative emotional energy or hurt. Cranio-Sacro Therapy The unimpeded flow of cerebrospinal fluid (Cranial Rythmic Impulse - CRI) between the head and backbone is critical to good health. This flow can be disturbed by improper alignment of the skull and neck. Imbalances in this area can quickly lead to painful conditions including neck spasms, chronic and acute headaches, pinched nerves, stiff neck (inability to turn the head properly), tempero-mandibular disorder (jaw misalignment), depression, and much more. Proper gentle manipulation of the neck and skull can restore health to this region and bring relief. On-Site Chair Massage Chair Massage is a specific approach toward adapting Shiatsu massage and acupressure to a short-duration treatment that covers many of the areas that greatly affect health and energy. Most recipients of this therapy notice an immediate improvement in the way they feel, and particularly note a reduction in stress and tension in the upper body, where so many people focus tension in the modern work world.
